Sustainability Tools for BIM
This month, the Houston-Area Revit User Group (HARUG) and the Houston Chapter of International Building Performance & Simulation Association (IBPSA-USA) together present:

Sustainability Tools for Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Description:
Please join us as we welcome Nathan Kegel of IES as he will be introducing attendees to various simulation capabilities available in the latest version of IES software, the accepted solution for LEED Energy, Daylight, Comfort, Water, and Ventilation Credits by the USGBC. Time permitting, sustainability options within Revit and Autodesk 360 will be discussed (along with the future of Ecotect).

This workshop will provide architects, engineers, sustainability consultants and academia with an overview of both early-stage and detailed analysis capabilities within the IESsoftware, many of which are applicable to various LEED rating systems including ASHRAE 90.1 PRM (Appendix G).

Other capabilities include importing 3D model buildings from Google SketchUp and Revit; Climate and Solar analysis; Lamp/luminaire selection and Artificial Lighting Design & Analysis; Day lighting Analysis including both Radiosity (LEED IEQc8.1) and Radiance ray-tracing methodologies; Daylight harvesting implementation for energy savings; Glare Analysis; Occupancy Comfort (LEED IEQc7.1); and Renewable Energy Technologies Analysis (LEED EAc2, EAc6).

Nathan has over 10 years of HVAC design experience and building modelling experience. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and is active in a host of sustainability organizations including ASHRAE, USGBC, and IBPSA. He has recently been asked to serve on the board of directors for gbxml.org and is the co-founder of the IBPSA Twin Cities chapter. Nathan is familiar with many modelling tools including Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, eQuest, and IES. In his current role, he provides training, support and consulting to customers across North America.

Description:
Don’t try to search for the Capitol Grill since ‘Google’ will incorrectly take you to ‘Capital Grille’ restaurant (on Westheimer) which is where we will NOT be. The venue for our social is brand new and located in downtown Houston at the corner of Capitol St. and Main St. (formerly the Zula Restaurant and Lounge).
There will be other events going on downstairs however we will be in the Mezzanine area. With a slideshow of previous topics, we will celebrate the best of the Houston Area Revit Users Group along with appetizers and drinks, not to mention the importance of networking with your peers.
